Review:
"They usually work"
I am a contractor w/35 yrs experience. I have observed or used nearly all gutter screens on the market. I try them before I sell them. Some are very expensive, like Gutter Helmut, but it does work. I finally ended up w/Amerimax on my house. They are inexpensive, easy to install or replace if damaged, and they keep out most debris, including pine needles and maple seeds. The gutters may need cleaning after 5+ years because dust and small particles do get through. Overall, they are the best bag for your dollar.

"Can ruin your roof"
When I bought my house the Amerimax gutter guards were already installed, exactly like the instructions say. The back end of the guards were inserted under the shingles. However with a low pitch roof, it lifts some of the shingle ends causing them to cup and creating a catchment pool. Needless to say, my overhangs have now rotted away and I'm in the process of reframing my eaves and redecking the bottom foot of my roof.

"Missing holes"
Company has no quality control. Bought these covers from two different retailers and all had drain holes that where not punched thru.

"They keep everything out, including the water!"
I installed 25 foot of these gutter guards here in southeast Michigan on one of my gutters to prevent maple leaves from filling them up like happen every year in the fall. The install was relatively easy however I had to pry up the shingles that were stuck down to the tar paper substantially. Autumn came and the leaves began to fall and I was relatively happy at first, knowing I was not going to have to dig the gutters out once all the leaves fell off the trees. But once the leaves accumulated on the roof and stuck to the gutter guards, the water just poured off the roof across the leaves on the gutter guards and over the gutters on to our walkway below. Once the leaves blew off the gutter guards they seemed to work okay, until the heavy rains came. Then about 25% of the water cascades over the gutter guards on to the walkway below. Once the leaves had all fallen and they dried up and blew off the gutter guards it was okay. Then winter came and the snow fell. The gutter guards immediately plugged with snow and froze over with ice and plugged again! Any melting snow runs over and we have 4 ft long icicles hanging down directly overhead ready to impale you! There is also a layer of ice building up on the walkway below making it an unsafe ice skating rink. IMHO, this product should not be sold in climates where there is a potential for freeze/thaw in the winter. I'm going to have to remove them as soon as the snow melts and I can get back up there safely on a ladder. I plan to take them back to Home Depot and hope they will take them back. I plan to talk to the store manager and show them pictures the ice build up from this product. Amerimax needs to reevaluate this product or re-engineer it dramatically! These gutter guards, though inexpensive and somewhat easy to install, have only cost me tons more time of cleanup and safety concern for my family who now has to walk on ice below and be fearful of an icicle impaling their head! Yes these gutter guards kept the leaves from getting into my gutters, but they are now preventing the gutters from doing everything they are intended to do.

"Niagara falls"
These covers were installed professionally with our new roof. They never have worked, it looks like the Niagara falls here in the winter. They have been on for five years now and have caused nothing but problems. Wrecking the siding on the house and rought on the deck. If the rain water can't go down them I hardly doubt I would ever have problems with leaves. Save your money

Review:
"They make things worse"
We have had the Amerimax covers on our gutters for about 3 years. On 95% of the house, they work great. On the other 5% they are a complete and utter disaster. On the valleys of our house, the gutter covers, no matter how often they are cleaned, are completely overwhelmed in a medium downpour. In a heavy downpour, the rain shoots out about 3 feet from the gutter onto our landscaping. Our foundation gets wet as a result, and we are worried about rot and settling problems due to the water load. We have resorted to quasi-permanently leaving 5 5gallon buckets under the valleys. During the past 2 weeks we have had to empty the buckets literally dozens of times. Removing the pieces at the bottom of the valleys appears to our only option, as Amerimax has not responded to a request for information on how to resolve this. But that will cause leaves to accumulate in the gutters, and the leaves cannot be accessed now because of the covers. Save your money, this product makes your gutter require far more maintenance than without it.

"Gutter covers"
These covers work for about 6 months. After that, they plug and the rainfall flows over the cover and stains the gutter. They are hard to clean. I spent over $400 on a set of these. I threw them out last month. Don't waste your time or money. Just have your gutters cleaned on a regular basis.

"Gutter guard does its job for a couple years max"
I bought my Amerimax gutter guard at home depot two years ago, and I was pleased at the easy install and how it looked. It seems like a great idea because we have two big trees that always loose leaves that fall on the roof and eventually end up in the gutter during any storm. Here in Phoenix we have monsoon season, and as soon as it struck I was pleased with the gutter guard performance. It kept the gutters from getting clogged up. Then all the leaves started pilling up on top of the gutter guard, this kept the water from flowing in, and the water jus poured over the side onto the patio. I think with our style of flat roof, this especially doesn't work very well due to the water pouring in from all angles. The other big problem that I have with this product is that it tends to warp and fade after a hot summer like we have here in phoenix. It was difficult to get it to lay back in the gutters after it warped, virtually making it useless. I have since taken them out and am back to just having plane old gutters without the guards.

"Gutter Guards aren't all they are cracked up to be"
I've had these gutter guards for over a year (just enough to deal with one fall's worth of leaves). I really liked the price point of these, I did some shopping and had to spend a little to supposedly get a little. I had to pay extra to get the color that would most closely match the trim of my house. What I don't like about these gutter guards is that while they work, they only seem to work about half the time. I would say that roughly 50% of the gutters still clog with leaves (small leaves yes, but still they are clogged and the point of these guards is to keep all leaves and branch debris out of the gutters). Cleaning them out is not an option as my roof is 25' off the ground at some points and the point of buying the gutter guards is to keep me off a ladder that high up. I would not buy this brand again or recommend to a friend. I am currently researching more options for a replacement which has to take place this summer as these simply will not work for another fall.
