"Horror story with SunPower"
Stay as far away from SunPower as you can, unless you like non-functioning systems, endless hold times on customer service, and refusal to have a tech come out to your house to even investigate why your system isn't producing energy. My solar system has not been producing energy for several months at the least, and maybe longer. I have called SunPower so many times and get nowhere with them. You're lucky if you can even get a human on the line after endless wait times. Once you do get a human on the line, they'll tell you that you need to contact one of their local dealers. Then you repeat the same exercise with the local dealers, explaining what's wrong, and they tell you you have to contact SunPower corporate to have them send a tech out. But SunPower corporate refuses to send a tech out. I have no choice now but to rip out this junk system from a junk company with junk customer service and replace it with Tesla or some other company that isn't falling apart at the seams. The wheels are coming off at SunPower. Stay as far away as you can. EDIT: They've requested more information from me as if my review isn't legitimate or something. Here is my reference number with their customer support: ref:_00D80ZF1L._5002T1OmjR8:ref Nothing I have said here is something I haven't said to them in private many times. But now that it is posted publicly they are scrambling to address it. We'll see. Haven't heard from them yet. Then, they never followed up after that. They told me they would send a technician out and never did, nor did they call me back to schedule one. They finally sent a tech out to look at my system (which wasn't even installed correctly). They charged me $300 for this technician to come out. This was about a month ago, since then I've heard nothing from the company. Can't get answers from them about what was wrong, what needs to be fixed, and if it's covered under warranty. So going on 9 months no of no working solar due to SunPower being a disaster of a company. Despite their own technicians telling me the system was not installed correctly, and was installed with poor practices leading to extreme fire hazard, and also telling me that the panels are dead but covered under warranty, the corporate office REFUSES to do the right thing and replace my panels under warranty, and fix everything that they did wrong. Their corporate office and customer service people are either evil or incompetent. It boggles my mind that their own technicians can tell me to my face that their bosses need to replace my broken system under warranty, and then their corporate office calls me and spins some crap about why they can't replace it and why they won't replace it. They couldn't even keep their story straight. This business is a dumpster fire of an operation, and customer service is like talking to ChatGPT, if ChatGPT got hit in the head really hard. Do yourself a favor and never use SunPower. I will be recommending against them to anyone who asks me about them. I will never use them for any of my properties, residential, commercial, or otherwise. The whole point of solar is to save money, but now I am in the hole tens of thousands because they sold me a hunk of crap. I am just glad my house didn't burn down with the poor and shoddy job they did on installing it.

"Terrible customer service"
Your company is the worst at customer service! I have been lied to so much in the last 3 weeks, telling me someone would be contacting me after calling you 5 times (Liars), you are sorry about what is happening to me (Liars), and this is all while my system hasn't worked since April 22nd. Why did I pay $20,000 for a system to save me money that doesn't work. We have been hooked up to your system since February and only had a couple months worth my money.....Unacceptable! No one ever came over to show how our system works and all you can say is, "Do you have the app?" What good is an app that shows our system is not working if you don't respond to the problem? I have had family members ask about your company because they want solar systems and initially I told them to check you out, now I am telling them what a crappy company you are!

"Sunpower, worst customer service"
Need a new roof and both Sunpower and their dealer Independent Power Systems are unresponsive. It does no good to have solar power when you cannot get them removed to put on a new roof.

"Nightmare of Bad Inverters"
I purchased a 24 panel array less than 2 years ago and have had nothing but trouble. Northern Pacific Power installed the top-of-the-line Sunpower system with micro-inverters at a cost of $19,000 more than what 24 Tesla panels cost. I paid more for what I thought would be peace of mind since the company claims FULL parts and labor warranty for 25 years. Soon after installation, my power generation really dropped and I was told there were 3 bad micro-inverters. It took 3 months for those to get replaced. I now have at least 12 bad inverters. Now Northern Pacific is saying they will not cover the repair because I had Tesla back up batteries installed and the bad inverters must be Tesla's fault. This really makes no sense because Tesla touched nothing on the panels or inverters. Only wiring changes occurred downstream from where the AC current comes into my house. Tesla (of course) says it has nothing to do with the batteries, but is a problem with the micro-inverters. This will end up in litigation!

"Sun Power does not care..."
I've had Sun Power panels since 2013 but several years ago, the inverter had to be replaced. My system stopped producing but it took 3 months to have it replaced - and that took a letter to the CEO This year - 2020 - in May I decided to check my production (which I seldom do) and discovered that my monitoring system was not working in March. Sun Power never notified me even though they are supposed to be monitoring the system. I called them and after much non-productive double talk a technician came out only to tell me the system was not working and it took 4 visits by 4 different technicians over 10 week period - and it is still not working properly and I've had no response from the company now for nearly a month Even a letter to the CEO did not prod an email. Worse company I've ever had to deal with - and I've dealt with a lost in my 84 years. Chris K

"Horrific Experience, Deplorable Company"
We are dealing with a company that is reportedly selling assets to stave off bankruptcy. ("SunPower Issues Liquidity warning, Expects Losses through 2019" 'SunPower warned it could be insolvent within 12 months...' SPGlobal.com) This is proven by the fact that they have little or no interest in resolving customer problems. SunPower's customer service representatives seem to functioning with one directive: get the money. My solar lease dated 2/22/2017 with Sunpower who refers to my point of original contact (Cosmic Solar) as their dealer/installer and in later correspondence as their partner. Did knowingly install faulty micro inverters yet charged full lease price and continually lied about what the problem was while the correct micro inverters were on backorder for a year. Fraud. Both Cosmic Solar and SunPower call center in the Philippines continued to frustrate and outright lie and create confusion while there was no production or underproduction from the solar array. Breach of Contract. Their lease states that you cannot sue and that as a consumer you waive your right to full discovery. Damages to roof in two locations where the solar panels were installed. Water damage and ceilings caving in below the solar panels. Licensed roofer estimates repair cost in excess of $68,000. Not including the wood below the roof tiles and interior ceiling repairs. SunPower will not respond to calls to remove their solar panels in order to effect roof repairs. After two years of complaining, SunPower sent out another solar company to examine the roof. They are not licensed roofers. Have written agreement from former SunPower employee Charlie Garcia that there would be no further charges until we have resolve to the issues plaguing the array and installation. Yet SunPower dismissed their own agreement and turned my account over to collections. Letter to their CEO Tom Werner with the list of grievances and I am contacted by Gabe Link, the Executive Service Specialist for SunPower. Who in writing tells me they will defer my payments for eight months, giving me time to make up the almost almost $7,000 gas and electric true-up bill which was accrued, while I was paying SunPower the monthly lease for an inoperational or under-producing system. I was later contacted by Gabe Link requesting I make a one time 'good faith' payment to prevent the account going to collections as they threatened. Extortion. According to Gabe Link the account is not in collections, yet while attempting to refinance a HELOC, the title company and I are referred to their collections division in an attempt to have them remove their UCC filing of a subordinate fixture lien. Title company and I make numerous attempts over the past two weeks with SunPower refinance and today they refuse to remove their subordinate fixture filing unless the system is paid off. They also removed a functional pool solar heating system from my property without my permission. After 2 years of on-going lies, confusion and lack of good faith business practices the only motion forward on any of these issues has been their denial that the roof leaks are caused by their installation. Avoid this company like the plague. At this rate, they probably won't be around much longer.

"Love my panels"
I went with Sun Power since at that time they had the smallest Panels with good output. I have a limited amount of roof area since I didn't want the panels in the front of my House. We have had the Panels now for over two years. We did have one period where there was a problem. They came out quickly and took care of the problem. They had projected that the Solar will cover 80% of my electrical bill instead it has covered 100%.

"SunPower doesn't stand behind their warranty"
Installer Sea Bright Solar stepped on and dropped 10 panels from the pickup truck during and before installation and would not replace. After no resolution with Sea Bright Solar I called SunPower directly, they agreed with the installer, even though a had pictures of the footprint and their own installation manual says "stepping on the panels during installation is don't allowed". The issue of course are the documented micro-cracks that have been recorded and brought to light in recent months via court cases on the Internet. If they would only provided a monitoring system that would allow me to keep an eye on the panels performance, like they said they would during negotiations, then I would be happy to live with them until their performance dipped below warranty spec. But they want to keep me in the dark and never replace my panels unless they complete fail. That is wrong because you pay a premium for SP panels because they use their "low degradation" as a selling point, but don't provide a way to monitor it.

"SunPower workmanship gets a "F" grade, again"
SunPower workmanship gets a "F" grade, AGAIN. Recently SunPower came out to replace all the microinverters that were failing one by one – our system is less than 2 years old. After they completed the work, we inspected the roof for damage (SunPower has damaged our roof in the past). We were shocked to discover footprints all over our 21 panels – 48 footprints to be specific! The way the panels are laid out on our roof, there was no need to ever walk on them. Walking on panels can cause microcracks in the solar cells, reducing panel performance, which will continue to worsen over time. The microcrack problem is a known issue that is even documented on SunPower websites and SunPower Facebook pages. Here is a quote from SunPower “We do not recommend that anyone walk on the panels because it can damage the cells, which would damage performance”. After discovering our panels had been thoroughly walked on by the SunPower crew, we called both the SunPower corporate and SunPower regional offices a week ago. However we were only able to leave voicemails since no one answers the phone at either location. No one has returned our calls. Our previous experiences with SunPower: Initial installation – damage to the roof and the roof leaked at the panel mounting brackets. SunPower did then come and remove the panels while the roof was fixed, and then SunPower reinstalled the panels. Reinstallation of panels – SunPower failed to connect 2 of the 21 panels. On our smart phone SunPower application, we kept getting error messages concerning slow data reporting. We kept contacting SunPower about it. After FIVE months SunPower figured out that 2 panels were not reporting, not connected, and therefore producing no power for 5 months. Data reporting issues resume – Again we noticed this on our smart phone application and informed SunPower. Eventually they diagnosed that the microinverters were failing, which was causing production loss. 1 1/2 months after we notified SunPower of the issue, they replaced all the microinverters and walked all over the panels. Apparently diagnosing microcracks on installed panels is not a simple thing, and production loss from microcracks will be small at first, but increase over time. So far since SunPower walked on our panels, production on our panels is down 6% over the previous year time period. While it is possible that this weather related, we think it is more probable that this is from 48 footprints of damage.
