BP Shingles

BP makes asphalt shingles and asphalt roofing rolls from felt produced in their own company mills. They also manufacture fiberglass, slate, and laminate shingles. Their laminated fiberglass shingles are sold under the brand names Harmony, Everest, and Eclipse.

BP’s architectural shingles are the Europa, a slate model; Mirage, which has the shadows and depth of a dimensional shingle; and the Roofmaster, which gives the appearance of a wood shake.

The Tite-Lok brand, which features interlocking shingles, was created for high-wind areas. Other heavy weather BP shingles are Citadel, Tradition, Rampart, Dakota, Yukon, and Weather-Tite. Many of their brands include a designation for east or west coast weather patterns.

History of British Petroleum's Manufacture of Shingles

BP shingles are manufactured by Emco Building Products Corporation. Although it was acquired in 2003 by Blackfriars Corporation of Chicago, Illinois, the company still operates under the Emco name.

The original company was formed as Building Products Limited in 1925 when Bird and Son and Ruberoid Company merged. Both Canadian companies were active in roofing and other home products. Imperial Oil purchased Building Products in 1964, and continued to expand its product line. In 1987 Emco bought the company with the goal of concentrating on roofing and wood fiber products.

Shingle Guarantees

BP offers warranties that correspond to the type of shingle purchased. Material and labor to replace defective shingles and underlayment are covered at 100% for three to ten years. This warranty is transferable to a new buyer at no charge and with no restrictions.

Depending on the type of shingle, additional coverage is in place for 20 or 30 years, or the lifetime of the roof on a pro-rated basis. The warranty period depends on the shingle.
