Elk Shingles

Elk features five main patented brand names of asphalt shingles. These include Prestique®, Raised Profile®, Domain® Winslow®, and Capstone®. Prestique has the widest variety of styles, with seven options. Domain has three, and the other brands each have one style.

Elk claims their lamination makes their product, at 1/2", twice as thick as others on the market. The base is UltraMat® reinforced fiberglass, to aid in preventing damage from fire, rot, and warping. Their sealant WindGuard® helps protect Elk shingles from wind blow-off.

Elk Corporation began roofing shingle production in 1955. They now have sales offices on the east coast and in the midwest and southwest United States. In 2007, Elk merged with GAF, although each brand is still being marketed under its own name.

Warranty

Elk guarantees its shingles to be free of manufacturing and material defects to the building owner. Warranty periods vary from 30 to 50 years, and wind velocities from 70 MPH to 110 MPH. Elk also guarantees that shingles containing the StainGuard® treatment will remain free of discoloration caused by algae for a period of 10 years.

Shingles must be installed per Elk’s recommendations and not treated or cleaned with harmful chemicals.

If the building is sold or transferred to another owner within the first 10 years of shingle installation, the shingle guarantee will remain in effect if the successor completes and returns to Elk the Transfer Notification Card attached to the shingle paperwork.
